Accordion

A 1990’s contractor’s renovation was selectively demolished, replacing a circuitous and heavy staircase with a floating single-run steel stair, and infilling beneath an existing mezzanine in the triple-height living space. The resultant taut plywood box–stained a pale white–hovers above the living space, providing various levels of privacy via accordion doors which open and close variably to mediate light and sound transmission. LED fixtures throughout articulate the volumes and light the magenta child’s playroom.
